And it\u2019s this journey that makes so many wonderful running moments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here\u2019s how it plays out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You\u2019re MOTIVATED.&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">A goal is set, you are excited and super keen for your running year.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Training begins and everything feels great\u2026 until\u2026<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You get STUCK<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">You can\u2019t run any faster.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>The idea of completing longer runs is daunting, that niggle turns into an injury or you keep needing to walk.&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Being stuck makes you FRUSTRATED<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Frustration leads to not sticking to your plan, making training mistakes, losing focus on your goals and\u2026&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">being really cranky!!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">If you let this take over, you will feel it\u2019s going to be a year of disappointments instead of having bragging rights as you flash your latest finisher\u2019s medal. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So, as a runner you have to choose\u2026&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">to let disappointment, fear or frustration be your block&nbsp; OR&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">to take small steps that keep you working towards your goal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I hope you choose to keep going.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When you do\u2026&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Be DETERMINED<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mix the idea, the running joy of others or a memory of your running happy moment with action plans &#8211;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">training program,&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">strength sessions,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">joining running groups,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">recording your data,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">talking with other runners,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">setting race goals like the UQ Twilight Run.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Determination will keep you going and override your feelings of frustration.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">But\u2026 you will be tested. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Stay PATIENT<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Trust your plan, believe in yourself and train your brain to stay calm.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Impatience is my greatest struggle.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>The brain battle to train, against the fear of missing out and losing run fitness can quickly loop you back to that feeling of frustration.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Creating strategies to manage impatience can be hugely rewarding.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After a painful ITB injury that stopped him running, Phil, an intraining marathon schooler&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s3\">said, <\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i> \u201cI now follow training advice very carefully and not been injured since\u2026\u201d&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\">Phil\u2019s reward was a&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">PB marathon,&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&nbsp;a smile that stayed for days, and a<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&nbsp;very HAPPY Running life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6118 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/intraining.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/intraining-parkrun-photo-267x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">He will tell you that \u201cRunning is a now a habit, and I plan my weekly schedule around the runs.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Finally, Run HAPPY<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Getting your goal is great.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>Enjoying your running experience is even more amazing.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Running towards a goal is not really about the final time or distance.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s the process and the journey to get there.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you are prepared to recognise and work through your roller coaster of emotions your running year will look more like this\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">MOTIVATION\u2026 <\/span><\/h4>\n<h5 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s4\">stuck\u2026<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;
